WHAT ABOUT Poway Road?
Engage the Community.
NO New Density Policies.
Improve Traffic Flow.
Invest in Enhancements.
How we got here.
In 2018, the City of Poway adopted the Poway Road Corridor Specific Plan which provides the vision framework for the Poway Road corridor (Oak Knoll Road to Garden Road). It was the outcome of three years of collaboration with a committee of more than a dozen community stakeholders, leaders and several community workshops.
With several residential and mixed-use projects already developed and more projects underway along the corridor, you can see the vision starting to come to life.
Many residents welcome the updates to an old, tired road. Others are concerned about limited setbacks, traffic issues and empty retail space.
What we can do NOW.
As your council member, I will continue to advocate for the following common sense, actionable recommendations to ensure Poway Road Development meets the specific plan vision and residents’ needs.
-
Host a community workshop to provide update on completed and in-progress development.
Create a Poway Road subcommittee to engage residents in neighborhood meetings.
Present a council report on the city’s progress with
state-mandated housing requirements
-
Revisit the Poway Road Specific Plan holistically to assess what’s working and what should be reprioritized.
Oppose adopting new standards that would trigger increased density by developers, and override local control on setbacks, height limits, parking, and more.
-
Install Adaptive Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) software, enhance detection, and reprogram controllers to improve traffic flow along the City's regional arterial and collector streets.
-
Invest in design elements that bring charm and character to the corridor, such as:
Gateway features and wayfinding signage
Public art and murals
Modern street lighting and planters
Refreshed holiday banners and festive lights
Enhanced landscaping, crosswalks, and sidewalk treatments
